In My Cannibal Family, you are left for dead in a vat of glowing toxic sludge by a ruthless mob crew. Instead of dying, you emerge as a grotesque, mutated monster with a massive chip on your shoulder, an insatiable appetite, and a bloodthirsty quest for revenge. To sustain your newly expanded family of lovable mutants and enact vengeance upon your betrayers, you decide to build a twisted horror theme park right beside a remote highway.

The gameplay follows a distinct, addictive day-and-night loop that blends creative tycoon planning with survival horror mechanics:

  • By Day (Build & Lure): You use a deep, modular building system (which even lets you build underground!) to design the ultimate park of nightmares. To keep your terrifying mutant face from scaring off your customers immediately, you must carefully construct attractions, signs, and decorations to guide visitors away from the light. You will design full labyrinths of terror using six unlockable themes—such as funhouse, carnival, and saloon—and set up devious distraction attractions like ‘The Mesmeriser’ or ‘Vortex Tunnel’ to lure unsuspecting guests into the shadows.

Hands-on Impressions: Slashing, Shooting, and Couch Co-Op Chaos

At Gamescom ’26, we got a chance to test the multiplayer mode, and it was an absolute blast of dark humor and mechanical depth. Once the sun sets, My Cannibal Family completely shifts gears from a creative park builder into a frantic, first-person stealth-action survival shooter:

  • By Night (Harvest & Hunt): The gates are locked, and the hunt begins. It’s your job to eliminate the visitors trapped inside your deadly sandbox before they can escape and alert the authorities. Armed with over 15 slasher-favorite weapons—including machetes, heavy-duty drills, harpoons, and firearms—you and your squad must stalk guests through your custom layouts, spring deadly traps like spike walls or ‘The Crusher’, and bag up the fresh meat.

Playing in co-op is where the game truly shines. With full crossplay support across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, getting a group together is seamless. However, the developers added a crucial, hilariously chaotic feature: friendly fire. Trying to coordinate a stealthy harvest of a panicked crowd when your buddy is swinging a chainsaw or firing a harpoon leads to incredible, laugh-out-loud moments where you accidentally slice each other up as often as the guests!

Feeding the Brood & Managing Your Mutant Family

The harvest isn’t just for fun—your mutant family hungers! You must feed the bagged bodies to your growing family of lovable mutants to satisfy their insatiable appetites. Doing so unlocks an array of stronger traps, deadlier weapons, and new park themes. You can even use resources to gestate entirely new family members!

Your family members aren’t just passive mouths to feed, either; they act as your loyal helpers. You can name them (we lovingly called our first helper ‘Gregg’) and assign them crucial automated tasks, such as gathering resources on the fly, reviving downed players during frantic night runs, or even performing some bizarre burlesque dancing to distract the crowd.

The Verdict: Slasher-Sim Greatness in the Making

My Cannibal Family is an incredibly refreshing, deliciously macabre blend of genres. The day-to-night gameplay shift works beautifully, offering both creative building satisfaction and blood-pumping co-op shooter thrills. The inclusion of crossplay, couch split-screen (for 2 players), and friendly fire makes it one of the most entertaining co-op party experiences we’ve seen in years. Keep your eyes on the highway—this twisted family is coming to PCs and consoles in 2027!
