In a sea of glowing monitors and virtual reality headsets, Wonderland Amusements brought a tangible slice of mechanical magic to the Gamescom ’26 show floor. Their flagship machine, Alice Goes to Wonderland Pinball, taps into a beloved and timeless universe. By utilizing the classic Alice in Wonderland story—which has entered the public domain (Gemeinfreiheit)—the developers have crafted an original, wonderfully whimsical, and highly nostalgic theme without having to inflate consumer prices with licensing fees.

What makes this home arcade cabinet stand out immediately is its physical scale. Modeled at approximately a 4:5 ratio (roughly 80% of a full-size commercial pinball machine), it is designed specifically to fit into standard residential living spaces. Crucially, the developers determined that scaling it down any further would completely ruin the authentic, natural gravity and physical momentum of the steel ball. This 4:5 sweet spot ensures that players get the exact tactile reaction and speed they would expect from a massive arcade cabinet.

Hands-on Impressions: Real Steel, Real Flips

Getting our hands on the machine at Gamescom was an absolute joy. There is simply no digital substitute for the physical, mechanical feedback of real flippers, metal ball-spinners, and bouncy bumpers. The cabinet features real custom game code, bright LED show lighting, and gorgeous original art wraps that bring the rabbit hole to life. It feels incredibly premium, solid, and satisfying to pull back the mechanical plunger and launch the steel ball into play.

While physical pinball is traditionally seen as a solo endeavor, Wonderland Amusements has integrated a brilliant local multiplayer mode for 1 to 4 players. Players can input their names, pass the physical flipper duty, and compete for high scores on a local leaderboard. While it might differ from our usual couch co-op digital games, it represents the absolute purest form of social, shared gaming fun around a single physical centerpiece.

A Cozy Playground with Room to Grow

If there is one critique to be leveled at the current Alice Goes to Wonderland table, it is that the playfield feels a bit empty. Compared to massive, €10,000 commercial machines, there are fewer physical ramps, toys, and targets on the table to interact with, occasionally leaving the gameplay loop feeling a tad sparse. However, for a machine priced at a highly affordable $999 USD in the US (expected to retail for around €1,500 upon its upcoming European expansion), the value-for-money ratio is unmatched.

Thankfully, the future looks incredibly bright for the studio. Wonderland Amusements is already leveraging this solid physical framework for their next big release: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Battle in the Sewer Pinball. Pre-orders are already underway, and we expect that the action-packed world of the Turtles will pack the playfield with even more mechanical targets, ramps, and interactive “sewer” elements to keep the kinetic chaos flowing.

The Verdict: A Dream Centerpiece for Couch Gamers

Alice Goes to Wonderland Pinball is an outstanding achievement in accessible home entertainment. It successfully shrinks the expensive, space-consuming pinball hobby into an affordable, living-room-friendly 4:5 package without sacrificing real ball physics. If you have ever dreamed of owning a real flipper machine to challenge your friends during game nights, Wonderland Amusements is making that dream a highly accessible reality. We cannot wait to see them officially expand to European shores!
