What happens when you fuse the nostalgic momentum of classic arcade pinball with the relentless adrenaline of a modern twin-stick space shooter? You get Appulse—an incredibly fast, chaotic, and satisfying action-roguelite that completely stole the show at Gamescom ’26.

Quick Facts

Developer: Le Rado
Publisher: Raw Fury
Genre: Action Roguelite / Pinball Shooter
Platforms: PC (Steam)
Release Date: Late 2026
Featured Event: Gamescom ’26

Behind the frantic space-pinball combat of Appulse is Le Rado, a talented three-person indie studio based in Nantes, France. While this is their debut title as a cohesive team, they bring an incredible pedigree, with team members having previously contributed to heavy hitters like Grendizer: The Feast of the Wolves, Haven, and Star Citizen. For publishing, they’ve partnered with the indie publishing masters at Raw Fury, renowned for championing highly unique, boundary-pushing gaming experiences.

Inspired by retro classics like 3D Ultra Pinball: Space Cadet, Appulse transports players into a reimagined space genre with a futuristic twist. You are thrown into a vibrant, intergalactic war where you must pilot and defend the Vektor Dynamics fleet against the ruthless robotic forces of the Iron Accord. Defending your mothership and navigating spaceship-inspired tables is just the beginning of your journey, as you must also work to uncover the dark mystery behind the planet-shattering Elysium Event.

First Impressions: The Ultimate Showstopper at Gamescom ’26

We had the chance to get our hands on the playable demo of Appulse at the Gamescom ’26 show floor, and it is easily our absolute gameplay highlight of the entire event. Raw Fury has once again proven their impeccable eye for highly unique, incredibly engaging indie gems—building on the momentum of their stellar lineup from previous years (such as last year’s showstopper, Routine).

Playing Appulse is a delightfully chaotic and hectic experience. While it retains the classic retro pinball flippers for core board navigation, it infuses intense twin-stick shooter mechanics into the mix. You are literally controlling a high-tech ball/ship that fires projectiles at waves of laser-armed robots. However, every shot comes with a brilliant gameplay twist: weapon recoil. Firing your weapons creates powerful recoil that propels your ball in the opposite direction. Players must master using this recoil momentum alongside the flippers to maneuver, control speed, and align their shots with extreme precision. The resulting loop is fast, incredibly responsive, and demands split-second spatial awareness.

Strategic Perks, Meta-Progression, and Leaderboard Battles

Beneath its hectic arcade surface, Appulse is a full-featured action-roguelite with robust progression. Each time you level up during a run, you are presented with a strategic choice of three randomized card-based perks to customize your ball with new active weapons, passive shields, or defensive abilities. Furthermore, conquering each spaceship-inspired table yields powerful, run-altering upgrades, allowing you to deploy auto-turrets, companion drones, and vital repairpacks.

The game also boasts fantastic meta-progression. By collecting resources and earning high scores across different tables, you can board and unlock new ships in the Vektor Dynamics fleet, creating custom arsenals and permanent upgrades that carry over between attempts. The campaign features 4 massive Motherships representing diverse worlds with their own unique layouts, environmental hazards, and boss encounters, alongside an extra **Bonus world** for the ultimate test of skill. While you are fighting solo, the competitive spirit is kept burning bright via a deep point-based multiplayer leaderboard system, letting you compete against pilots worldwide to prove who has the ultimate reflexes.

The Verdict: A Retro-Arcade Revolution

Appulse is a breath of fresh air in the indie space. It perfectly captures the pure, addictive joy of arcade pinball and elevates it with tight, complex twin-stick combat. The three-person team at Le Rado has built an incredibly responsive physics-based engine where every ricochet and recoil-boost feels rewarding. Currently planned as a PC (Steam) exclusive for its initial launch, the game is targeting a release window of **late 2026**. If you love high-speed action, tactical customization, and competing for the top spot on global leaderboards, this is an absolute must-wishlist!
