What if your summer break involved talking to ghosts, fighting multi-dimensional monsters, and preventing a space-time cataclysm? Finji’s upcoming third-person action-adventure, Usual June, promises to deliver a beautifully stylized, witty, and combat-heavy conspiracy mystery that is anything but ordinary.

Quick Facts

Developed and published by the indie powerhouses at Finji—renowned for publishing masterpieces like Tunic and Chicory: A Colorful Tale—Usual June takes us to the quirky and shadowy town of Fen Harbor. Players step into the shoes of June, a college student trying to enjoy a peaceful summer vacation. However, June has a unique, otherworldly quirk: she can talk to ghosts. What was meant to be a summer of working odd jobs and hanging out with new friends quickly spirals into a dark, supernatural investigation. June must uncover her town’s century-spanning secret history and stop a literal spacetime cataclysm before existence itself breaks down.

Gameplay-wise, the title is a seamless blend of witty narrative exploration and frantic, highly flexible third-person hack-and-slash combat. Players will navigate Fen Harbor’s stylized, colorful 3D streets, dodge parental questions about life after graduation, and fend off massive, terrifying spectral monsters from beyond the pale using fluid, rapid-fire combos.

First Impressions: A Delightfully Weird Supernatural Journey

During our exclusive Gamescom ’26 hands-off preview presentation, we got an in-depth look at June’s upcoming adventure, and we came away incredibly charmed. One of the most endearing and uniquely “Finji-esque” aspects of the game is its audio design. While the game features full English subtitles and user interface options, the actual character voice tracks are comprised of a charming, expressive “Sims-like” gibberish and grumbling. This creative decision adds an immense layer of personality and stylized character to the narrative, making every conversation feel incredibly warm and quirky.

Finji has designed the experience with a highly focused campaign structure in mind. Players can expect roughly 10 to 12 hours of narrative-driven gameplay. This tighter, tightly paced playtime ensures that the story keeps its momentum from start to finish, avoiding the typical open-world bloat and keeping the spotlight firmly on the central conspiracy and June’s charming relationships with both the living and the dead.

Story Secrets Over Mindless Collectibles

In a refreshing departure from modern gaming trends, Usual June respects your time. The developers confirmed that players won’t have to hunt down dozens of arbitrary, mindless collectibles scattered across map markers. Instead, the focus is placed heavily on organic world-building and narrative discovery. Exploring the nooks and crannies of Fen Harbor yields genuine lore, hidden story beats, and secret interactions with the town’s spectral inhabitants.

Furthermore, while the game doesn’t feature world-altering, game-breaking choices that completely derail the main plot, it does offer a sensible amount of dialogue and narrative branching. This light branching allows players to shape June’s personality and her rapport with her eclectic group of friends, adding fantastic replayability and personal ownership to the unfolding story.

The Verdict: Another Finji Jewel in the Making

With its striking visual style, frantic combat, and incredibly charming cast, Usual June is shaping up to be another spectacular jewel in Finji’s crown. The decision to prioritize narrative depth, light branching, and expressive “gibberish” voice acting over bloated collectibles makes the game feel incredibly fresh and personal. Mark your calendars: June’s supernatural summer vacation officially begins on October 28, 2026, on PC via Steam and macOS. While console ports are planned for the future, they are currently on the distant horizon, so PC is definitely the place to be!
