Phantom Blade Zero, showcased at Gamescom 2024, is shaping up to be an exciting action-RPG that blends elements from various popular titles while carving out its own unique identity.
Developed by S-Game the game offers a compelling mix of fast-paced combat and intricate boss battles, which sits in between popular new hits and old veterans.
During our hands on session we were remindered at the newest Chinese Action Hit WuKong, bit for sure also the latest installment from FROMSoftware, Elden Ring. But this view might miss important DNA parts of Phantom Blade Zero. Because from a gameplay and combat choreografie perspective you should think abould some veteran games like DMC or Ninja Gaiden. And trust me, this is a good thing!

Development and additional Information
While an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet, the game hopefully will arrive sometime in 2025. S-Game, the developer behind Phantom Blade Zero, is a relatively new player in the gaming industry that has quickly gained attention with their ambitious project.
S-Game’s approach to game development, combining traditional Chinese martial arts with modern action-RPG mechanics, has generated considerable interest in the gaming community. Their work on Phantom Blade Zero demonstrates their ambition to compete with established AAA studios on a global scale. All this with with an studio scale of about 90-100 people only and just 2 years in development right now, this looks pretty promising.
We’ve also asked about the recently occured controversy about an potential Xbox Release or skipping this plattform. We were assured that the latly poping out news were not the truth. Xbox is still on their list, but they need to focus on PS and PC due to their potential audience and studio size.
But currently there are already a diverse set of localization options. Game will be dubbed in englisch and chinese and also additionally subbed in japanese and german. Additoinal Language option might follow before the actual release.

Gamescom Experience & Reception
Overall, Phantom Blade Zero presents an intriguing blend of accessible action RPG elements and a challenging combat system, distinguishing itself from classic Soulslikes while establishing its own unique identity. For me it was one of the Gamescom 2024 Highlights. I am not really into Soulslikes, but really liked WuKing last year, but did not grabed a copy right now. But Phantom Balde Zero I am already looking forward to preorder. Since its a bit more action focused and reminds me back to good old Ninja Gaiden times, with updated stunning visuals and new twists. Bet me in!
